What is Phyto-Based?

Phyto is a botanical term. Items that are phyto-based are literally "plant based".

Phytonutrients are compounds in plant-derived foods that have biological activity in the body. Phytonutrients naturally occur in vegetables and fruit. In broad terms, they can be said to be any chemical or nutrient derived from a plant source. However, in common usage, they have a more limited definition.

They are usually used to refer to compounds found in plants that have a beneficial effect on health.
